Catalog of Portuguese coins in euro
The introduction of the euro in Portugal took place in 2002, by replacing the Portuguese Escudo (PTE) at an exchange rate of 1 EUR = 200 482 PTE.
The Euro of Portugal show three different designs by Vitor Manuel Fernandes dos Santos representing ancient royal seals, surrounded by seven castles and five coats of arms; in details:
- 1 cent, 2 cents and 5 cents: royal seal of 1134;
- 10 cents, 20 cents and 50 cents: royal seal of 1142;
- 1 euro and 2 euro: royal seal of 1144;
On all the coins also appear the 12 stars of the EU, the word "Portugal" and the year of minting.
